Welcome to HKFiles! Julienne R’s blog on everything Hong Kong (but mostly hiking and food).

Was away for some time in Madrid / Berlin / Manila etc. but back in the ‘Kong now on a more permanent basis – so you’ll be seeing more of me here! Otherwise I’m posting at www.morenatravels.com.

2011 – Moved to Hong Kong from Manila, Philippines

2012 – Internship ended; decided to stay in Hong Kong doing a communications role with a pharmaceutical company.

2013 – Bagged a job as a writer/editor of a tourism magazine; started writing about the city, doing food reviews, and attending events for a living

2015 – Quit job, left Hong Kong in March and spent the next half of the year travelling through Spain, Japan, and the Philippines

2016 – Back in Hong Kong!

Top 4 Favourite Hike

Best Underrated Hike on Hong Kong Island: Wilson Trail Stage 2 – My favourite hike on Hong Kong Island. No, it doesn’t end on a beach, it was just the perfect day and perfect memory with my sister. ❤

Po Toi Island: Hong Kong’s version of the Adriatic Coast – Best island hike in Hong Kong. It was so magical I could never go back because that memory is sacred to me 🙂

Quick Challenging Hike: Lantau Peak (Lantau Trail Stage 3) to the Big Buddha – I did this one right after ending a serious relationship. On Valentine’s Day.

Beach Hike/Walk: Lantau Trail Section 11 Pui O (Beach) to Cheung Sha Beach – I just love Lantau Trail. My favourite long trail overall, among Hong Kong / Maclehose / Wilson

There are so many more great ones out there, many I have written about, but more that I haven’t or have yet to. Will get on that, with a little bit of encouragement from you!

I rarely do a hike more than once because I want to try everything – with the exception of The Peak, because it’s so convenient as a workout, even after dark.

Do leave comments, because the more you do the more I will blog! 😀

“I’m impressed, I have to admit. Genuinely rarely should I encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail to the head. Your notion is outstanding; the problem is an element that not enough everyone is speaking intelligently about. We’re happy that I stumbled across this…”

“Thanks for sharing, really glad I came across your article, we had a great experience yesterday evening and wanted to thank you for it! highlight of the trip was that we came across a huge porcupine on our way up (they are not aggressive and no reason to be scared). Stay awesome!”
