Decided to up my game on OPEN RICE since I’m always eating out anyway. Might as well contribute to the HK dining scene, right? 🙂
So here goes nothing: my review on The Bellbrook Bistro Oz by Laris
Another 2-for-1 SUPER MONDAY rolls in again and we decide to try something new. This time it was an Auzzie (Ozzie, Australian) joint on Wyndham Street by Dining Concepts (the group behind Al Molo, BLT Steak, etc.)
We didn’t know what to expect, but this place is usually super expensive (average of HK$300 per main dish) so we decided to take advantage of the 2-for-1 meal.
If you’re looking for a light meal, don’t come to Bellbrook. Most of their offerings were heavy and meaty. Rather than going for the barramundi (fish) which I would usually do, I decided to go with the server’s recommendation: the BRAISED BBQ SHORT RIB (HK$298) with HOMEMADE BBQ SAUCE and KIMCHI (I didn’t eat the kimchi). This was the best short rib we’ve ever tried in our lives. The order took a while to come because they had to bake it but boy was it worth it. I usually have to ask for extra BBQ sauce whenever I have ribs but the flavour was so full with this one that I didn’t have to.
So far so good.
I had the ORZO RISOTTO (+HK$58) with the ribs which was super rich, cheezy, and creamy. Maybe I should have gotten the simple green salad instead. I had a food baby by the end of it.
My friend had the BUSH RIVER MINT MARINATED LAMB T-BONES 14 OZ (HK$348) with AUSSIE RED WINE-HONEY SAUCE which was also great but not as good as the ribs. Those were unbeatable.
Even if we were well stuffed of course we had to have dessert. Which was HUGE:
The STICKY DATE PUDDING (HK) $98 with BRANDY CARAMEL SAUCE and MADAGASCAR VANILLA ICE CREAM was absolutely delicious but wayy too heavy after the creamy, meaty gigantic dinner we just ate.
Service was good but could be friendlier; one thing I really appreciated was our seats by the huge windows with a view of Wyndham Street and the upcoming art/colonial heritage area. That’s gonna be a fantastic view when it opens (see: The Central Police Station Revitalisation Project).
There’s no denying Bellbrook is pricey but at least you get what you pay for! I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. See you next Monday!
