Easy to Medium Hike: Pok fu lam Reservoir to Peel Rise (Aberdeen) – Hong Kong Trail Section 2

Distance: 4.5km

Duration: 1.5 Hours

Difficulty: Easy. I don’t know why some websites have labeled this as ‘fairly difficult’. But if you’re a beginning this might be a medium.

START: Pok fu lam Reservoir Road

TRANSPORTATION:Β We took a cab to the starting point, but you can take minibus 91 from Hollywood Terrace on Queen’s Road Central or minibus 71 from Connaught Road Central corner Hillier Street, by Sheung Wan MTR Station.

I guess this hike is done best connected with section 1 (The Peak to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir) but we did it separately.

Finally done with this! After doing Section 1 to Victoria Peak a million times, we never carried on to Section 2 as we’d always getΒ distracted by food on The Peak. So this time I forced my hike buddies to cab it to the exact beginning of this hike so that we didn’t go astray and head to the Peak’s restaurants in our mid-hike hunger stages.

Walking up to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir from the road, we got water at the Pok Fu Lam Public Riding School and watched the pretty horses doing their daily exercise – wasn’t actually allowed to take photos here, discovered the sign after this

a clearing where we were able to exercise! Chin ups / pull ups for J and H on the bar, and balancing play for me. And leg ups. There were a lot of kids here playing too πŸ™‚

‘No horses allowed’ on the paths that strayed off the Hong Kong Trail Section 2. Was excited to see free riders but saw no roaming horses 😦

Aberdeen from the 'top'

Aberdeen from the ‘top’

Aberdeen. Not particularly impressed with this view because I've been spoilt by the other sections of this hike. Violet Hill was one of the most impressive I would say

The latter part of the hike is a walk through a 'catchwater' or storm drain. Boring :(

This hike had good views of Lamma Island and Aberdeen, but I probably wouldn’t do it again. It’s good to cross of the list, though, worth doing once!IMG_2954
